Program Planning
Elementary & Middle Schools
We guide your school team in determining the type of dual language immersion program that is right for your community.
There are two types of Dual Immersion/Two-Way Immersion programs
90/10 Dual Immersion program
The 90/10 program is a sequential literacy program where literacy instruction begins with the partner language (Spanish) in grades K-2. 90% of instruction in kindergarten is conducted in the partner language, 10% of instruction in kindergarten is conducted in English. Instruction in English increases in each subsequent grade until 4th or 5th grade where instruction is 50% in the partner language and 50% in English.
50/50 Dual Immersion program
The 50/50 Dual Immersion program is a simultaneous literacy program where literacy instruction in the partner language and English begin in kindergarten. 50% of instruction is conducted in the partner language and 50% of the instruction is conducted in English from kindergarten through 8th grade.
We support schools in developing and designing their dual language program including supporting recruitment efforts for new programs.

“If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to a man in his own language, that goes to his heart.”
